One reason I love Copenhagen

Its no secret that I'm completely nuts about bikes. I love riding them and when I'm not riding them I like taking them to bits and putting them back together again. One of the fantastic things about living here in Copenhagen is that it is arguably the best city in the world for cycling around. I stumbled across this blog which is packed full of interesting bike related stories.

This post about IKEA introducing the free use of bikes and matching trailers caught my eye. Again, a great example of IKEA showing they know how to market themselves in more interesting ways than the traditional poster campaign.

Innovate or die

Google and Specialized Bikes have joined forces on a new contest. They're looking for interesting new ways of channelling pedal power. It's called Innovate or Die.

I guess it all contributes to the climate-change debate and maybe it will make people think more about the way they use energy (at a stretch). However, I'm not sure about the rather alarmist title of this promotion or indeed whether it will actually solve much. Somehow, I wonder if Specialized would be better off spending their time and money on persuading people to use recognised applications of pedal power ie. ride to work

Just to follow up on my earlier post on the Honda 'Earth Car'. Here are the figures. Oooouuch. I reckon this one is going to backfire on Honda.

The new Honda F1 car has been getting a lot of press lately.

Honda say the flashy new paint job is designed to "raise awareness of environmental issues and to encourage people everywhere to make a difference to the world around them".

Hmmm. I'm not sure. It's a difficult balance to get right and raises an interesting debate every time. The optimist in me says it's good that someone is raising the issue but the cynic says if they really wanted to do something for the environment wouldn't they get out of motor sport?
